Ariston RD80 SL setup

Postby isshitreal » 10 Aug 2012 12:59

Hi,

New in this lovely place. First post...

After a near 10-year break from vinyl, finally purchased an Ariston RD80 SL, with Linn LVV arm and Ortofon M20FL Super MC cartridge, all in flawless condition. I'd imagine it to be a nice start up combo.

Can't spend much more on the setup right now, but I need a preamp to get going. Any suggestions to complement my Rotel RA-300? I'm looking to achieve something basic, but nice, with a view of future upgrades little by little...

Any knowledgeable comments are much welcome. Thanks.

Just a for phono stage or to use for cd tape etc?

if just a phono preamp, the nad PP2i or cambrisdge audio 640p will do ou great.

Thanks, and yeah, for the phono stage only. After some research, I think it'll be the 640P. Could maybe try and find a nice old integrated one with a MM/MC switch, but it would probably be silly with the 640 being so affordable...

a lot of good noise with the cambridge. I had a nad pp2i and it was also a very good sounding preamp, and can be picked up for not much money at all. i paid £28 for it and bought a new slightl uprated power supply for another £20.

Pretty good, the price. Read some nice things about the NAD, but I guess the 640P beats it in some ways. I'm guessing that too would benefit slightly from an uprated power supply?

Which speakers do you run with the RA-300?

I've just had this as a gift with its matched tuner RT-300, and looking for the speakers.

I'm having little problems with the source selector: you have to turn it and press on both side until you get the right sound from both channels (sorry for the strange explanation!) and the volume knob that "cracks", I hope to solve these issues with the electric contact activator spray.

Anyway, I love the way it looks and sounds.
