To choose between 2 turntables??

Which is the Better Turntable? Cartridge and stylus apart.
Kenwood KD-2070 Direct Drv
Technics SL B2 Belt

I have these 2 turntables and my lovely wife will only tolerate the one ... Go Figure :)
I have always liked the Kenwood as it is a solid, stable turntable with great sound. However the anti-skate cannot be fine tuned ie 1.25. The anti-skate weight can only be set to the half gram 1, 1.5, 2.

The technics offers a semi automatic feature, nice ... and I can fine tune the anti-skate the way I want. However the technics does not seem as solid as my Kenwood.
Is one better than the other?? Any opinions??
Thanks
Norm

Tell her if you can only have one table, it'll have to be the one you want. Then get rid of both tables and buy the one of your dreams. Tell her you settled when picking a wife and refuse to with the table.

Ron.

I get the feeling that you like the Kenwood the best but you have some doubts?
Don't worry about the anti-skating, it's common to have it little more than the cartridge downforce - and you write it has a great sound anyway and that is what it's all about.

Well I am not sure, but turntable sound is mostly about cartridge/stylus quality vs the actual table to me. Maybe narrow minded?? Yes I seem to prefer the Kenwood table, is it because I have had it for 30+ yrs, but I am pleased with the semi automatic function of the technics. Is this all about preference or is there one TT better than the other??

If you are primarily interested is sound and solid build, the Kenwood might be better.
If you are interested in the ease of use of the auto functions, the Technics is the one.
Your choice.

Keep the Kenwood. It is a very good late 70's turntable.
Maybe this thread will encourage you: viewtopic.php?t=29656

An update on the anti skate: it uses a weight which you can place in either of three positions. The weight balances the anti skate after the weight of the cartridge, it fine tunes itself so there is no need of additional fine tuning. Just let go off your control here and accept that it works good! :) Pro-Ject uses the same method with their 9 and 9cc tonearm, and this is used by some very fine turntables of today like the Music Hall 5.1.

I say it would be a shame to ditch this fine looking and solid turntable with a smooth anti skate solution in favor of a cheesy looking Technics belt driven consumer turntable. :) It's your choice, but I urge you to keep the Kenwood.

Thanks Raphaelmabo!
I agree and really do prefer my Kenkood TT. Completely manual and difficult to find parts, but I have a real sentimental attachment to it, so that's decided!

Thanks for the input all. The knowledge base in this forum is outstanding!

While I am on the subject, anybody know where I can find parts, ie. strobe light, for my Kenwood KD-2070? Parts seem readily available for sever TT modles, but Kenwood parts ane hard to come by.
Thanks as always
