Thorens 125 mk2 problem(s)

Postby tixbeast » 18 Aug 2012 12:37

Just replaced the motor via ebay, worked ok for a while then it stopped. checked the voltage from the transformer, nil. So I changed the transformer, with the help of ebay again, and again no voltage from the transformer, when soldered to the circuit board. So on reading other posts with similar problems, I changed the power supply capacitors, still no joy and no voltage from the transformer. Any miracles or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also voltages on fused circuit board before transformer, 250v - 0v - 250v and black/orange wire to fused connection, orange centre and grey/orange to outer connection. On circuit board looking on back side from front of TT, green cable from transformer outer most lug, red to centre and dark red to inner lug.

Alec,

My TD 126 MK III will not turn on. I have a service manual (German) that does indicate that there are fuses. How can I obtain whatever fuses might be blown? Is this something that I could do myself?

Thanks,

Get a digital multimeter, and check continuity in the power cord, fuses, switch, etc. This will save a lot of guesswork.

dry solder joints.

what is the chance, with reasonable headaches to make a steady strobe? Dead steady

For a while I went mad, washing the belt, cleaning the motor capstan and the edge of the TT over and over, trying to make my strobe "dead steady." It seemed like the little blocks of light "shifted" slightly at each revolution of the platter. Then I realised that this was due to the strobe ring under the central platter being just a tine bit off-centre, which doesn't matter at all.
Maybe this is what is happening to you?

My TD125 was in troubles with the main system control board, after maintenance and service the turntable was restored as new. You can try in this way
