Cleaning the vinyl plate?

What's the best thing for cleaning the vinyl plate (might not be the correct terminology) so it comes up to a nice high shine?

elbow grease (might not be the correct term)

I polished mine with 0000 steel wool and cleaned it with silver cleaner afterwards. Elbow grease is definitely the key ingredient in the process!
