Thorens TD 166MKII bearing noise

I have gotten my TD 166MKII out of hibernation and am in the process of doing some minor modifications. Using the Thorens Overhaul Guide, I carefully removed the sub-platter in order to have access to the top of the sub-chassis. After replacing the sub-platter as directed, I now have bearing noise where none had existed before the procedure. What did I do wrong? It rattles with quite a bit of noise now. Did the process remove oil and the bearing just needs to be cleaned and the oil replaced?

Thanks. I was planning on ordering his kit anyway as part of the work I am doing on the table. I just wonder how sliding the spindle off then sliding it back on can introduce noise. I thought I had done everything correctly.
