Hi guys,
With all manufacturers, there are varying degrees of quality and budget to cater for most, I.e rega start with the rp1 turntables, then rp2, and onwards and upwards,
What I'm wondering is, where would my td 166 with rega rb250 arm come in in the Thorens range?
Also what it would have cost new, and what would be a fair price to pay now?

Mine is quite a comparatively new model, a mk vi bc, as opposed to the mkii that people seem to be referring to when discussing the td166
Cheers.

You should email Dave at vinylnirvana.com. That guy knows everything about Thorens, and can answer where you stand in the Thorens universe. But I don't think it is so cut and dried which models are best or better, since the mods are what drive the quality. For example , a 318 is better than a 145, stock. But once you put an SME arm on the 145, the stock 318 is left behind.
Would love to hear your table-

The td166 was a lower cost / budget version of the famous td 160. It comes in below the td160 but above the td280 which was Thorens entry level turntable in the mid to late 80's.

Here is a test of the Mk II version, price was 179 UK pounds in 1989. I'm sorry I don't have any special info regarding the Mk VI.

So put an SME arm on the 318 then. :)
