SL-QD33 cueing function problem

Post by javelinamx72 » 14 Jan 2017 23:38

I've recently acquired a Technics SL-QD33 and it had all kinds of problems that I have gotten solved except for one. When you press the "cue" button it will lift the tone arm, but when you press it again it should lower the tone arm, but doesn't. Light flickers briefly when you press the "cue" button to lower the tone arm, but will not turn off. Only way to get the tone arm to lower is to press the "start/stop" button and allow the unit to cycle through and cut itself off. Cueing is supposed to be available before and during record play, but if you hit "cue" it will stay lifted until you press "start/stop". Has anyone had this happen? If so, what was done to resolve your issue?

I bought this same SL-QD33 TT in great looking condition some years back. I suspect that I paid between $20.00 and $30.00 for it. My player had a double speed problem which took $50.00 at repair shop to get corrected. I'm wondering if the prior owner pulled the platter off and then turned player on? I have been told that it is not wise to run TT without having platter in place.
Do you have a shop manual for this player? You might consider getting inside of the player and see if anything looks like it is not as it should be. Maybe someone will answer your question with more specific answers as to what is not right. Other than this TT not having a cuing arm, this is a decent enough TT. limited cartridge options may not get you into higher end cartridges. Enjoy.

I have the exact same problem. Did you ever get it fixed? I have heard it may be due to electrolytic capacitors needing replacement. Still reading.

Hi,

Maybe a little late but I had the same problem.
To solve it I replace C501 it's the capacitor at the output of the 5V regulator IC501.
I hope it may help

I had the exact same cue malfunction you described. Once again it was a 47uf 16v cap on the motor driver board that had lost 75% of the rated value. Check them all if you can and replace as needed.

Hello, I had exactly the same problems. Have 3 SL-QD33 and 2 again and again these symptoms. Now I have, thanks to this forum, the two Elkos C501 and C307 changed. For safety, when it's my turn, both. It actually seems, at least until now, to work. ;-)
