Replacement cartridge for SL-6

Postby markv1504 » 03 Jul 2012 21:30

I've recently acquired an SL-6 which seems in good nick, but the cartridge doesn't seem right. Its an Audio Technica AT3472P and seems to distort during more intense passages, even after shelling out for a stylus to match. Sounds quite decent otherwise, although I'm clearly no expert.

What options do I have regarding obtaining a relatively cheap one in the UK? I understand the EPC-23 was the default item, so I guess getting hold of one of those would be a start.

Thanks in anticipation.

Try verifying VTF at the stylus.... :) At least 1.25Gr better 1.5Gr. You may have to remove the platter and fool the safety overides allowing the arm to drop without an LP. Have experienced VTF deviation using the guide lines at the base of the tonearm and when dialed in correctly eliminated light tracking distortion.

Good luck

You're right of course! Thank you very much. There's a +/- screw to fiddle with. So with a little tinkering I now have my operatic ladies happily squawking and screeching without distortion. :-) Nice little turntable for a bargain price, I just wish people would (Larry David style) 'respect perspex'.
