Help with my Technic SL-B211U Turn Table Stylus

Postby PEACHIE » 24 Jun 2012 00:16

Hi from a GA Peach :).

I'm an old school poster with an old school Technics system that I love but haven't used in a while. I want to hear some vinyl.

My Issue: Stylus/ cartridge. I am confused by this. I am the original owner of this system and think I must have had to buy at least one needle, but not sure. Anyway, when I look at the info on the turntable, here's what's indicated: Stylus EPS-33CS.

Reason for confusion: My stylus/cartridge is a 2 parter. There's the part connected to the tone arm with 2 screws--the color here is dark blue and I think original. Then, I have a smaller piece that slides in this part. I am thinking the piece connected to the tone arm is the stylus and smaller is the cartridge correct? So, which one houses the needle? This is the part I need. I don't think it's the one connected to the tone arm because you wouldn't need the small piece (white in my system) if it housed the needle would you?

Last comment. I read another poster had this system and the responder recommended getting something new and different from lp gear. in the picture from the link its a 2 pc blk/wht setup. please help this swinging granny out.

I appreciate any and all responses. Thanks.

The part that is attached to the headshell is the cartridge. The removable part is the stylus assembly, sometimes referred to as the stylus.
Technically, the stylus is the tiny diamond on the end of the cantilever, which is a small tube, usually aluminum, that sticks out below the cartridge, and plays the record groove.
The stylus is easily replaced, if you know the model of the cartridge. There is often a choice to be had.

Cheers, from a rockin' grampa.

Thanks grampa.

I think I got it. some of the words are a little technical, but I think I can reread it a couple of times and get it. I am really smart but layman's terms work better for me.

Have a great weekend.
