What is it hooked to? A phono cartridge needs a phono pre-amo to equalize the modified signal on the record, and to boost it to line level, which an amp can handle.

Cheers,

hey thanks for replying!

i have it running directly into an outlaw model 1070 receiver, which i believe has a pre built into it. i'm going to pick up a little phono preamp today and see if that takes care of it.
fingers crossed!
