Technics SL-D202 Headshell Interference (Pulsing)

Postby bbr620 » 11 Jan 2012 21:18

Hi all, starting to get no end of grief with this tt, after fixing the pitch problems, i went to rip an album tonight and when i open cool edit pro and monitor record level, i've noticed a pulsing coming through the level meters.

It's doing this with the tt switched on or off, but, if i remove the headshell, the pulsing stops. I stripped it by carefully removing the wires from the sylus and headshell, cleaned all contacts with contact cleaner, rebuilt it and checked the rubber seal was ok, reconnected it, the pulsing interference is back.

Is this a headshell or stylus problem?

Any help, thanks in advance :D

I think I'd at least give 'cool edit pro' a little evil eye........just a guess, but that's where I'd start. :(, Chuck

Ground loops , yes more than one suspected. The interaction is giving rise to the beat frequency.

tnx for the suggestions, i have to turntable, pc and speakers all coming off the same wall sockets? the tt earth wire is connected to the pc tower as the phono pre-amp is plastic casing, if i remove the phono pre-amp from game port on pc, or the line in, problem gone, if i reconnect pre-amp to pc and disconnect the red/white tt leads from pre-amp, the pulsing vanishes? so i'm sure it's starting at the tt, just not sure where, was running perfect till i applied some contact cleaner to the tonearm headshell connects yesterday, then problems started, thanks again.
