Postby Blotto » 29 Jan 2011 00:01

still, after all these years, I remain a fan the 1200 Technics,,,Crazy--
well not quite......Specs are still very very good ( who cares about
specs---I mean yeah wizz its more fun to guess )..Ease of set up and
use is top notch. Production quality has always been excellent...
Oh and the price......Even last year KABUSA would set you up with
a GREAT TT for 1000 bucks that couldn't be touched by the competition untill around an 1800 dollar price point...........Got my first Technics in 1974,,,,,,

A guy down the street from me who works for The Salvation Army told me they just sold one last week for...$230. He didnt know they were out of production. I could only cringe. I coulda had the damn thing. He about freaked when he found out how much they were going for now.

You're right Blotto, "all things must pass". I'd just like certain things to pass my way first.

Got word from Kevin at KAB a few days ago that cosmetic parts are becoming a little trickeir to get new. If you try for a dustcover he has to wait until May for it...

Thankfully he has mine and shipped it either yesterday or today :).

I bought a NIB Mk2 from eBay the other day, picked it up today. Still debating whether to open it or not. Production date is Feb 08.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did they part with it for?

$1071 AUD, which sounds expensive, but keep in mind the Australian list price is/was $999.

They did the stock depletion trick here too, maybe to avoid stockpiling? I rung around frantically a few weeks back to mostly laughs. They have always been pretty thin on the ground in these parts.

I guess i'll open it when I get my own place and I have the room for two of them.

Nicely done...

I got mine off Craigslist here and have gotten it back to factory condition for a total cost of $550 (US).

Going to be interesting to see where this all goes over the next few years.

Of course, mine is second-hand and required a new tonearm and was missing the 45 adapter and original rubber mat, as well as the dustcover and its hinges...

I notice on Amazon new SL1200 are now going for about (funny cosmic twist?) $1200.

Congratulations on finding yours!

I did not know they were going out of production but managed to buy a brand new 1210 mkII a week ago.One of the last ones to get hold of in Scandinavia.Gave 580£ for it.I sat looking at the box with misty eyes and could not believe my luck.
It's come to a good home,we are going to grow old together.
The only thing is that it came with bad interconnect cables but I will
be using a Denon DL-160 on it and will be changeing the cables later.
Got some better cables from KABUSA.

Snagged the last new one I could find here in Norway, produced october '10! Used to have two of them way back, but stupid enough sold them for Numark TTX's 7 years ago, wich I recently sold (even had to replace a motor on one of them after only a few years) I had the money for another one, but will have to find a gently used one at a time.

Love it with a Shure V15 V-MR I got second hand (+ a JICO S.A.S. needle) for it. Only "issue" is I can't get it to follow the arc on the Technics Bearwald protractor. But it seems I have got it to work with the Stupid Loefgren, if that makes sense?

Not sure if I want to get the Sumiko HS-12 for it to be able to follow the Bearwald if that pushes the resonance further down with the V-MR: it's low enough already with the stock headshell. How "bad" would the result be? The V-MR is supposed to work with every kind of tonearm with the stabilizer brush down I heard, but I'm not sure if it would be ideal to put more mass on there.

No need for endless tweaking. If the add-ons were necessary at all, Technics would have made them available under their own name, or would come as standard. Just make sure the cart matches the tone arm, such as the Audio Technica AT440MLa or even its more expensive sister the ATN-150MLX. I use these two very extensively, never felt the need for all them sorts of gadgets. The original tone arm is good enough. All these so called improvements are a slap in the face of the SL-1200 designers. A SL-1200 is not a REGA, thank God for that. A basic REGA needs all sorts of improvements because it is a piece of junk.

Bye!

For all VE members who are lucky enough to snag the remaining NIB SL-1200s check out this thread and make sure you've got the right RCA leads...... and not be surprised with the sound when you do set up the tt.....

Just went in to my local DJ shop. Kid behind the counters said that a Mk6 release is in the works. Any news?
