Make that “every decade or two or three or four.”

Also, pristine condition is no guarantee of perfect operation. Over time, grease can get sticky, rubber can deteriorate, plastic can crack (https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php ... ir.452256/). Better to get a vintage automatic turntable serviced unless you want a project, in my opinion.

There are a couple of things that go wrong with the arm mechanism. My sl-1700mk2 (same as yours but silver) arm motor also ran on until power was switched off. I fixed mine recently and here below is the thread. To cut a long story short I replaced ic458 and ic459 on the logic board (TC4023 and TC4011), they are CMOS chips. In addition to this, clean all the brown enamel off the boards underside some people report it goes conductive. Its worth reading the full thread here as there are lots of good tips.
