SL-DD22 - dustcover hinges - low spring tension

Post by jvander59 » 27 Oct 2019 14:03

Hi there,

I am a happy owner of a Technics SL-DD22 turntable.

Everything works quite well except the dustcover wich tends to fall down when I lift it due to - I guess - a weaking of the spring tension in the hinges.

I would like to take a better look at the 2 hinges themselves in order - if possible - to retight the 2 springs but I find quite difficult to dismount the hinge mechanism (no apparent screws) and I have not - so far - found any explanation about how to do it.

I hope I would not have to dismount the turntable's casing...

Is there anyone having an experience with these hinges ?

I also have an SL-DD22 and it had the same problem. Check out this thread for pics on how to fix it. You have to pop the hinges out of the cover with a screwdriver and then place something between the springs such as part of a toothpick or some folded up card stock. This tightens them up so the cover will stay up.

Thanks Cobrachris, you made my day! it took me a while to do it but with a little patience, I managed to insert pieces of toothpick inside the springs and from now, the dust cover does not fall anymore :)
