That Braun looks interesting, but who is the OEM of this table? Braun hifi line was never made at home, they are specialised only in personal hygiene products, especially men`s electric foil shavers.

The Braun is a vintage turntable. There really isn't anything about it that looks a lot like anything else so I suspect it was indeed built in-house. Braun used to have a full hi-fi component line-up at least into the late 80's. The only Braun component I own, however, is a vintage (early 80's or something) coffee grinder! I suppose one could use the motor from it in a DIY direct drive turntable if one managed to come up with a good speed control circuit...

Braun was a respected name in the audio market several decades ago. Based in Germany, IIRC.

Anyone remember the great ADS/Braun speakers marketed by ADS on this side of the Atlantic (hq'd in Boston, IIRC)?

I had a pair of their L710's back in 1978. Wish I still had 'em :(

Cheers,
Al

Technics coming back to the field will add discipline to the turntable genre, and will force competitors to improve quality.
This is nothing but great news.

Which competitors you have in mind? Micro-seiki doesn`t produce turntables anymore, just some high end stuff, CEC doesn`t produce turntables anymore, Thorens and Dual have long gone, others like Pioneer and Teac are just buying turntables from chinese manufacturers. They didn`t even made a screw by themselves. So I don`t see any competitors in mass production of turntables.

Back in 1968, I don't think they were commissioning turntables to be made in the Far East yet. They probably built it in-house, and it came at a rather steep price of DM 1200, which in today's money is about the same price as the new Technics SL-1500C :D

Then list me 5 manufacturers of DD turntables in 2018. That means quality DD and not something for 7.000 EUR. But at an affordable but not cheap price. I am all ears!

You still didn`t suceed to list me five manufacturers of DD turntables in 2018. I am still waiting.

Otherwise if we go back to Panasonic and Braun. In terms of electric shavers I prefer Panasonic over Braun. Cheaper Braun models which I used have technically stayed in the 80`s. They are quality made, but shaving takes too much time and they irritate my skin. Then I accidentally saw a Panasonic shaver and tried it. For 50 eur I got a very advanced unit, It shaves quick and very smoothly, result is the same as with a classic razor. And it doesn`t irritate my skin. But I doubt that Panasonic is producing them by themselves, you can read "made in china" at the back. And they look similar to models from famous chinese manufacturer of electric shavers.
