Technics SL-D2 help?

Postby mmgraal » 23 Jul 2012 23:29

Hello, I recently purchased an SL-D2 and everything seems to be in order except for one thing.

When I drop the tonearm on the record, the playback is 100% fine through the speakers, except that if you listen closely to the stylus on the record, you can hear harsh noises being emitted, akin to it scratching the record. You can't actually hear any of the noises through the speakers.

I've never encountered this problem before, I was wondering if anybody has had a similar experience?

Thanks.

Silly, silly me, I answered my own question, it seems that the weight counterbalance is missing! How could I have missed that I do not know.

Now, I have another question, what are my options at this point?
Having never dealt with an issue as such I am at a bit of loss of what to do at this point, can I easily purchase a replacement, or is a home remedy possible?

Diego,
I was faced with the same problem a while ago with a missing Pioneer counterweight. I did a google search for it and found a parts website which listed the part with the original Pioneer part number and a list of other Pioneer turntable models it fitted. Then I searched ebay for it with all those other turntable model numbers. I eventually found the counterweight but it took awhile.
