I use two cd players from the begining of the 90's, they both work well, read cd and cd-r.

The first one and aslo the older is the Sony CDP-M39

40401

and the second, Sony CDP-209

40402

I now have a Naim CDS3. And a CDX2 before that. The latter was quite lively and bettered by my then Rega P5. Although I much prefer the CDS3 (no longer made RIP) over the CDX, my RP8 is leaps ahead.

I did rip all my CDs but never got a player/server so I still spin CDs.

I recently picked up an ADC 16/2R CD player at Goodwill for 25 bucks. It's a wonderful-sounding unit with simply laid-out controls. Glad I was able to find it a home. :D

Sony DVD/CD: Model NS426P. Can't seem to find the old Yamaha CD-2. Hope I didn't throw it away. #-o

Hello. I have an opportunity to purchase a used Marantz CC4300/U1B or Yamaha CDX-470, both selling for $50 bucks. They are in great shape. It will be my first audiophile cd player. I would like to know your thoughts on both cd players and help me choose one to buy. Thanks!

It probably boils down to whether you want a single disc Yamaha or a 5 disc changer Marantz, plus condition.

Generally single disc players are considered better quality, but if you want to load up 5 discs and do a random play, the changer is good for that.

I never meant to get into CDs in the first place. I bought a player to give as a birthday gift to a family member, but found out they already had one so I was stuck with it. A nice Harman Kardon unit. When it died I got a Sony DVP-800H.

I set up a second system in my basement in 2015 and went with a NAD C546BEE. A few months later I became intrigued by SACDs and took a flier on an Oppo DV-980H. I found I liked SACD, as well as the few HDCDs and DVD-As that were hiding in my collection. as soon as I could afford one I got a used Oppo BDP-95 and moved the DV-980H upstairs.

So upstairs I have the Sony 5 disc changer for parties and holidays and the DV-980H for most digital listening and downloads on thumb drives. In the basement I still have the NAD and the BDP-95. The NAD is warmer which is nice since my system is built for detail and on some CDs the BDP-95 is a tad bright; but I really wouldn't miss the NAD if it was gone. In fact I've listed it for sale several times; but no takers. So I just enjoy them both.

That being said, I've never not had a turntable in either system and that is where most of my tweaking attention is focused. After all, this IS VINYL engine. ;^)

There is a remote that came with the player, was it taped to your unit....... :-k :-k :-k

Neither Single disc or changers doesn’t bother me, I just wanted insight if anyone knew which one had the better sac.

Marantz CC4300/U1B or Yamaha CDX-470?

Here are some specs I could dig up for comparison purposes. They are both one bit players, but the Yamaha has slightly higher dynamic range and harmonic distortion if specs are reliable.

Besides that single disc players are generally more reliable since less moving parts to contend with. On the other hand the Marantz is newer and has a variable output for the headphone

Yamaha CDX-470
1bit dac conversion,
Yamaha YDC103 dac / filter,
Sony KSS-150A / KSS-210A transport / pickup,

harmonic distortion ≤0,0025% (1 kHz),
mm 435x108x208, kg 4,7.
Year: 1993
DAC Ydc-103

Marantz CC4300/U1B
Disc format: CD (5 disc multi play)
Digital converter: 1-bit, 8 x oversampling

I rarely use my Yamaha DVD-S1800 anymore. I've ripped my CD's to an NAS and use a dedicated Wi-Fi connected laptop connected to an Emotiva XDA-2 via USB for most CD playback. The exceptions being CD's from the modest collection of SCAD's I've gathered. Even so, with those SACD's that have an ordinary CD layer said layer is on my NAS.

Thanks! After reading this I was going to go with Marantz, but now the owner also said that he also has a technics sl-pd9 and Sony c345. Now I don’t know what to chose.

I use a RSQ MV-333 3-disc video cd player. I bought it new around 9 years ago for my wife to sing/play karaoke. I now use it as my cd player. It retailed around $300.

I had a 90's Sony 5 disc tray unit that also had some sound files in it. At the moment I have an Onkyo 6 cd disc tray loading unit.
