Classic Platter Upgrade??

Postby moonguy » 06 Jul 2012 11:06

Hello,
I have a Superscoutmaster with the older black acrylic platter, not the superplatter.Would it be worthwhile upgrading to the classic platter and what would the differences be in the sound.
Thanks

The original black lead/acrylic platters are actually quite good, and are better than the later acrylic-only platters (especially in the bass). But other than the ability to use the periphery ring clamp, I'm not sure what, if any, sonic differences there are between the lead/acrylic and Classic platters. This might be a question to ask VPI.

Hi ,
I recently installed the classic platter upgrade and it was worth it. Im using a vpi TNT 6 w/c came w/ the clear acrylic platter.I was not satisfied w /the sound in my system because it was dark , dead, loose bass and smeared soundstage probably because of the loose bass. W/ the new platter the sound was livelier, bass was tighter and solid, open, wider soundstage and more vivid imaging. I think this new platter is very system dependent. It depends upon what your aiming or trying to achieve in your system. It work in my system to compensate. For my system's short comings.

Hope this helps,
