Marantz 6370Q - platter won't spin at correct speed

Postby dcrews » 28 May 2012 19:36

Hi all:

I have recently acquired a Marantz 6370Q turntable. Unfortunately the platter will not spin at the correct speed. When it first starts up, it will start and stop rapidly a few times before the speed settles at about half the speed it should be. I've tried all of the usual remedies - Dexoit on speed controls/switches, oil on the spindle, etc. Nothing helps.

This table has a digital display that shows the speed that is selected. This display is constantly blinking like an alarm clock. According to the service manual, this is because the platter is spinning at a different speed than what is shown (however it blinks like that whether the platter is spinning or not). I just can't figure out how to get it to lock on to the right speed.

If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help. This turntable is in great shape and it seems a shame for it to be a junker.

I want to add another picture here. I just noticed this tonight. One end of the copper wire that wraps around the motor is loose. No idea how to fix this, but could this be the problem?

Hi

Nice turntable and a pity about the speed issue.

Sometimes it can seem like it should be simple to fix but it just aint.

I have had this issue with a turntable or two in my time.

Looking at yours it seems quite full of circuit boards and all that.

What you have tried already is good.

All i can suggest is to disconnect any easily disconnectable cable from circuit boards and respray with deoxit.

Then reattach cables.

See how that goes, but it may be that it is not fixable. If not then think about swapping the motor.

Good luck!!!
