RD11s and Cyrus 1 problem

Postby value4 » 27 Apr 2012 20:48

Hi

My first post to the forum. Thought I had better ask for help before all of my system is in pieces.

I recently bought an Ariston RD11s with a Mission 774 arm. When I connected it to my cyrus 1 I had serious feedback in one channel. I then stripped the turntable and arm to find the problem but nothing obvious. However if I plug a phono plug into the Cyrus, that is not connected to anything else, I still have serious feedback. Also with phono selected on the amp I only have to have my hand close to the back of the amp to get feedback!

Any suggestions before I revert to CD's :(

Sounds like a problem with the Cyrus, not the turntable/arm/cartridge.

Thanks.

Not sure thats good news as I realy like my cyrus and the charge for a service is £180. Suppose I could run a separate phono amp into the tape or tuner input.

Where are you? You could get it fixed a lot cheaper that that.

Hi Eoin

I'm near Ludlow. If you know somewhere who services Cyrus amps at a more reasonable price I would be interested.

Back to my original problem I think the amp may be OK :) I found a poor joint on a cartridge tag, the one that shares the earth for the tonearm. Fixed this and connected a phono amp I had and all sorted, sounds far better than the CD. Might treat the amp to a service at some point as all I have done is change a fuse since I bought it new.
