Nigerian Scammer Warning

Postby JaS » 11 Jul 2012 22:55

Another enterprising gentleman from Nigeria has been sending PMs claiming to be from Spain and offering non existent items to people who placed wanted ads. His account and IP address have now been blocked, but if you get an offer for a sale or wanted ad and it looks odd, report it to me and I'll take a look, thanks.

This guy may be using multiple usernames and e-mail addresses on various sites. I was recently contacted by "Ernest Hemmingway" from Spain on another audio forum and the content looked very similar to this guys. It's good to remember that if a deal sounds to good to be true then it probably is and one should never, ever send funds via Western Union, wire, or bank transfer overseas. Use a payment service like PayPal or credit card instead as they provide consumer protections in cases of fraud.

I need the username to check the IP address. Cross referencing this to the location given by the user is the only verification I can do.

I had an enquiry to buy a load of computer equipment, from Somalia, they paid up front, then collected half the gear.

They never came to get the rest. I still have it.

I guess they just got killed, (They would not put safety belts on when I got them from the station, as in their country you have to be able to get out quick).

Not all Africans are scammers.

Then I got a random email from a guy in The Gambia, I took it seriously, he paid up front £17000, I delivered the good personally.

This just underlined for me that not all Africans are scammers.

Now where was that email about Gaddafi's unclaimed funds i just send £300 and I get £27m ;-)

Nobody said that all Africans are scammers, but when a member signs up and contacts everyone with a wanted ad telling them that he has their item and suggesting payment by Western Union, it is definitely a scam. As these scams always come from Nigerian IP addresses, and the ratio of spammers/scammers vs genuine visitors from Nigerian IP addresses is ridiculously high, Nigerian IP addresses are routinely blocked.

IP address was 41.211.202.190
