WTD: Wallytractor for Rega RB700

Postby azvd » 06 Jul 2012 17:01

Hi!

Would like to give it a shot. It seems easier (and faster) to get one 2nd-hand instead of buying it directly from Wally. The 239mm (Rega) version to be used in a P7.

Please PM. Someone must have sold a Rega TT and ended up with the protractor gathering dust. Would be of great usage around here.

Why not just print out a Universal Arc protractor? Available FREE from here http://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge-alignment-protractors.shtml

Hi!

Yeah, I'm already using one by the greatest KWillis. I'd like to double-check with Wally's based on the positive comments about it.

Hi, watercourse.

I cancelled it in the last minute based on several negative opinions regarding pivot-spindle protractors. Guess a custom arc tool would be of better accuracy and ease to use.

My cartridge is currently aligned from a KWillis' protractor, which is fabulous. I intend to use the Wallys tool as a second resource.

Blimey, I think we've found someone more paranoid about set up than me! :D

azvd - just a thought that in the meantime, since you were able to print out the universal KWillis protractor in 1:1 scale, you can compare it to the RB700-optimized version to see how they compare to each other. It's cheap (free!) and will likely give you the answer you are looking for.

The reason I suggest this is that I have compared the original KWillis to other universal arc protractors downloadable from this site as well as the Wayner CAT-TWO purchased elsewhere, and found them to have identical null points. The difference being the "feel" of the tools and apparent precision, not the end result of where the null points are.

I didn't have the same findings with the Mint LP for Rega arms compared to the KWillis universal version. I sold the Mint LP not because I thought one was more "correct" than the other, but based on how aligning with the Mint sounded compared to the others.
