I thought this can be interesting to talk about.

Records that you have been looking for ages, you know they exist but you don't have.

In my case there are a couple of records that I don't have yet, basicaly because I can't find them or I can't pay for them and I've been looking for a long time:

Guns N' Roses - Live like a Suicide (the EP without G N' R Lies)

Led Zeppelin - The BBC Sessions

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Original)

Cheers

I have "Mellon Collie" original, not re-cut. There is a used copy on AudiophileUSA as we speak but it's $400, I paid $180 for mine. The LP that I want and I know exist because I have actually seen it with my own eyes is Thomas Dolby's Astronauts and Heretics.

Rammstein - Mutter. Seen it, but not at the prices asked thanks.

Took months to find, but finally found Korn The Untouchables. Then all of a sudden common as muck.

In the old days before GEMM and eBay, it was much harder to find those rare ones. I spent years finding things like

Mono yellow and black UK Parlophone Sgt Pepper (around $4-5, no-one spotted it was mono)
The Freak Scene - Psychedelic Psoul
Insect Trust - Hoboken Saturday Night (bought a reissue)
Guitar Sounds from Lenny Breau - original RCA
Egg - The Civil Surface (found it in Portland Oregon mid-70s, on holiday)
Link Wray - Jack the Ripper (also a reissue - lost the first one years back)

Now you can pretty much have anything if you want to pay the price.

If I had to pick one I'm still searching for it would be
Tim Buckley - Star Sailor, plus of course all the old Blue Note jazz.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody 7" on blue/purple vinyl is probably my 'holy grail' item, and I know I'll probably never see one. There are plenty of fakes circulating around though!

I often see many albums i have on my holy grail list, including original copies of Bakerloo, Quatermass, Fuzzy Duck, Beggars Opera, Hybris by Anglagard, Dr. Z, but they all seem to be in the 100GBP to 500 GPB price range.... which is getting rather silly... Crying or Very sad

I managed to pick up reissues of some of those albums so i'm happy with those Very Happy

David Gilmour- Live In Gdansk
Cranberries- No Need To Argue
Ocean Colour Scene- Moseley Shoals

I found a record of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld after trying for about two years to get it on cd. I couldn't believe my luck in finding the record in very good shape and about a week later the cd arrived in the mail. I gave the cd to my mother. I must admit, as much as I hate computers it has made finding music far easier, not to mention this site and researching materials and design considerations for my turntable.

Talk Talk's Spiit Of Eden eluded me for ages until my wife found one in Glasgow for £20...I picked up a better one in Edinburgh this year for £4.99.. Shocked I am quite patient when tracking things down..I bought Pink Floyds Pulse from e bay just two weeks ago for £ 112..it is a beautiful copy and even the case has only slight wear. I had to get permission from my missus to bid mind. Embarassed

Maes B, picture cover single by a Welsh group called Y Blew from 1967 on the Qualiton label. A side original freakbeat and B side Beth Sy'n Dod Rhyngddom Ni ? cover of Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions's You Must Believe Me. (also covered around the same time by The Spencer Davis Group).

Around a thousand were pressed and the label folded a short time after it was released. Eventually found a copy after some 15 years of looking, in of all places, an electrical appliance shop. Seems they used to sell albums and singles in the 60's and 70's but decided to stop around the same time as CD's came in. They must have decided to have a clear out of their old stock as I'd been there some years earlier and they had no records on display.
There in front of me was a pile of singles, and not one, but two copies of the aforementioned single. Bought both for me and a friend. Record collecting heaven . Smile

It's not terribly rare I don't think, but the Andrea True Connection album More, More, More continues to evade me.

Scratch this, I found one!

Everytime I enter a charity store I anticipate finding a lost gem...never happened yet.
