 |
|
|
Can anyone suggest a source of suitable wood for making up arm board(s) for a TD124? I'm thinking beech, birch, and anything else which may be recommended. It needs to be 12mm thick and I can't think of anywhere or find anywhere to source the wood. I'm in London SW2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Andrew |

I have made td124 armboards from mdf, birch, maple, cherry, dalmatian, and chipboard. I can not hear the difference on any of them. It is also possible that my system does not recognize any difference that may exist. Find a woodworker or wood working shop and they can plane, shape and drill the board for you from your original or a tracing of the turntable chassis. There are also some reasonably priced boards on ebay.

| Thanks for the link and interesting to hear your experience. I'd like to make one or two up myself but tracking down a source of wood is proving difficult. Anyone any recommendations or leads? |

Hi Awl,
Most larger DIY stores (we have at least 3 here in
this small town of 43.000) are normally able to cut wood
to required approx. size. I got some teak offcuts (used
for outside furniture) and handshaped the rounded corners
for my TD124 with lots of TLC, rasps, files, drills and plenty
finegritted sandpaper...
Sure there are also some DIY emporiums
around Londinium that could help you out?? _________________ best regards/Jos/

Hi Awl,
Whitten Timber in Peckham can plane wood to thickness and they have a selection of hard and softwoods.
