Mystery tonearm quiz type thingy.

Sorry everyone, not so much of a quiz but many thanks will go to the person who can identify this arm. Apologies for the rather 'pants' photos but these are the only images I have.

It looks like a cross between an Audio Technica and a Sparta. Confused

Any ideas?

It looks like an AT-1005 with shades of Syntec/Japan Piezo?

Tone arm is model Audio Technica AT1005 from first model series of this tonearm in middle years of 1960's

Thanks Shoji and Jas, I have now seen a pic of a 1005 mk1 and it is indeed the same. The Syntec and Japan seem to be modded versions of this arm.

Very interseting link there and thanks for bringing it to light (not too sharp on my japanese though)

Seems I have an arm which falls somewhere between the 1005 and the 1009. Certainly has the counterweight of the 9, but no lift device and I do recall it being boxed as a 1005. I can only but presume AT arms were subject to variations.

I really must say though, for an arm dating back to the late 60's/early 70's the finish is as perfect as the day it was made. A friend only recently remarked on it's immaculate condition and sonic capability.

Eeee they just don't make things like they used to.
