Hi guys,

Reletave Newbie here who wanted to ask all you Vinyl Junkies for some advice. Was looking at purchasing a MILTY ZEROSTAT 3 ANTI-STATIC GUN to hep with popping issues. Are they really worth the £45 (US$60) they sell for and do they really mae a big difference?

Thanks Chaps....

Very Happy

The Zerostat definitely works, once one learns how to use it properly. I use mine routinely on records that accumulate static during play, so they won't attract dust in storage.

I paid $20 for mine about 25 years ago, so I suppose the current price is reasonable.

well I would go so far as to say that you simply need one, and what price you have to pay to get it is another matter.

Some shopping around might net a lower price, but I'd never go without one again.

The one guy more concerned with dust and static than a vinyl fan is a photographer in the darkroom.
Of all the devices, camel-hair brushes, without and with polonium strips, special cloths etc., the antistatic gun, Zerostat or Denon, is the only one that really cuts a static charge.

Cheers,
Alec

My choice for conquering static once and for all is wet play.

This one looks to be quiet a bit cheaper than the Zerostat.

Yes. For details and discussion, go to that thread. I have no more static issues at all.

Hmmmm,.... I'm a tad confused on how to correctly use the darned thing, Mine is an older Zerostat Red gun which I got used on EBAY. The included instructions say:-
Quote:
1. Hold the Pistol 10-20' pointing dirently at the surface to be treated
2. Slowly squeeze the trigger taking about 4 secs to do this. Positive ions thius produced will neutralise local negative charges.
3. After a pause of 2 secs then slowly release agin taking about 4 secs. Negative ions produced by this action will neutralise the positive surface charges.

But the newer Blue gun instruction I just found online ( http://www.musicdirect.com/product/73947) are different:
Quote:
USE: Point the Zerostat approximately two inches from the surface of the LP. Slowly pull the trigger and then pull the Zerostat away before releasing the trigger. Repeat in all four corners of the LP surface. DONE.

Anybody know correct way to use these guns????

Confused

Err, what's the difference between these "guns" and a standard pizoelectric gas lighter for gas cookers? Surely they do the same thing, with simply a different intent.

The picture at http://www.mapleshaderecords.c.....oclast.php certainly resembles one of those gas lighting sparky things. Are they exactly the same device though? If so, I'll just borrow the one from the kitchen!
