This from the Service Manual for the RP2/1 Disk Reproducer, which utilizes the Garrard 301 greasebearing transport... (in VE Library courtesy member folkishienne)....

If the question is : How often do you inject grease into the Sched One Garrard 301 via the grease-jet cap .......

The answer is :
Quote:
Lubrication of the main turntable shaft is provided by a screwed brass reservoir on the side of the bearing housing; screwing this cap forces grease into the bearing, and one half-turn over a month should be sufficient.

The modern user would need to remember that this instruction regarded turntable units that were in use over very long hours at the Bbc, and may well have required more constant attention to lube injection.

But this gives a clearer picture than the indeterminate "occasional" directive given in the standard two-star consumer 301 manual.

It's the little things.
