Sting's new album to be released late October/early November for UK:
Tittle: "If on a winter's night".
I can see both vinyl LP and CD versions
Does anyone know if that vinyl LP comes from the same producer like the CD ? Edit: sorry i mean "same label" not producer...
Just wondering...
one of the many links i found:

They all say "DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON" on the B&N site.
Usually new releases come out on the same label. Reissues are the ones that can differ. |

You are right i didn't notice that...
But that's not the label Sting usually releases his new albums...no?
I think A&M is ?
I mean: is that an "official" release of the album in both formats or just an independent record label release?
I miss something or ? _________________ Rega P3

I just returned home with this LP and am currently spinning while I post.
On the back of the LP cover:
| Quote: | Produced by Robert Sadin and Sting
Recorded at Steerpike Studios, Il Palagio, Italy, The Source, Malibu, Clinton Recording Studios, New York, Manhattan Center Studios, New York, SevenSeas Studios, New York
2009 UMG Recordings, Inc. - A UNIVERSAL MUSIC COMPANY * c 2009 Deutsche Grammophon GmbH, Hamburg
Manufactured and Marketed by Universal Music Classical. 825 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10019
Distributed by Universal Music Distribution. FBI Anti-Piracy Warning: unauthorized copying is punishable under federal law.
|
A & M Records Inc. is owned by Universal now:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A&M_Records
So I guess, this is going to be marketed through the classical division and so thus the DG logo is plastered on the jacket and the heavy paper sleeve with additional credits and lyrics. I was also surprised to see DG on a Sting record, however, the record store owner educated me that DG was all part of Universal and for a LONG time too.
Hope this helps.

For an interview with Sting some excerpts / songs on the album check out this link:

The vinyl version is silent and flat.
Happy listening.

Sorry to revive this thread but just been listening some samples of this album and it sounds really good (I'd initially dismissed it as more pretentious Sting nonsense)
However, I see the vinyl is pressed on one disc with a whopping 15 songs crammed on there.
Anyone offer any opinions on how it sounds? That's an awful lot of music to squeeze onto two sides of vinyl. Does it sound overly compressed? Anyone done an A/B with the CD?
Curious to know (objectively) which format is the better sounding... |

I don't think the amount of songs really matter, it's the total time squeezed on per side of vinyl when things get dicey.....
Side 1 has approx 25mins of content and Side 2 has 27mins of content AND the music itself does not need lots of vinyl real estate, club / disco bass beats....ie 12" singles......
No evidence of compression. Very nice and natural sound acoustic instrumentation. Sorry can't afford to double up $ame content on different media, $o no comment on the CD.
TheArc dismissingly states:

Me too intitally, however, he always ends up surprising me musically.
Fred and would love if you can get that background (Celtic?) chant on "Christmas at Sea" lyricized / translated I'm just mesmerized by this.... and the song.... _________________ Music is Everything....Except Predictable....WFUV Fan. |

| A nice enough album. I only have the CD but it's the first ''seasonal'' album I've ever bought. Some of the songs are woeful IMO...Sting trys too much too sound ''not like sting''. A nice album to dust off once a year. |

I hate to sound like Birdy (sorry, Birdy) but I hate the man's music. The thought of even having a single vinyl album in my collection is too awful to contemplate, and I have no fewer than THREE Carpenters albums in there.
If I have nothing good to say, I should say nothing - right?
Like U2, it's hard to see the point of the man. _________________ "Evolution didn't end with us growing thumbs..." Bill Hicks

Is it any consolation this was posted in "off topic" as opposed to "music and records".
Season's Greetings....

Yes, Fred. Good point, well made I suppose the fact that Sting brought the brilliant talents of Cheb Mami to the world in his awful song 'Desert Rose' should elevate him a notch or two. _________________ "Evolution didn't end with us growing thumbs..." Bill Hicks
