Any Idea What's happening here?

Hi Gents

I have a Leak Troughline 11 valve tuner which is in A1 condition and which I can listen to through any type of pre or amplifier - s/s or valve, without any problems until now.

I recently got this little Dynaco valve integrated SCA-35 amp and tried to lay the Leak by hooking it up to the Dyna's "RADIO" input and it sounds just all mud. Besides sounding bad and fuzzy, I also needed to crank the volume up way past 12 to get any reasonable volume.

When I started using the SCA-35, I virtually 'ran it in' continuously for days by using a s/s tuner and using it this way, the Dyna sounds superb.

I also tried the Leak into the Dyna's "SPARE" input but this doesn't work either.

Do you have any idea why the Dynaco doesn't like the Leak?

Hello Blue Angel!

Maybe the impedances are off on both tuner and amplifier, and they are a mismatch? Age may have affected both impedances, or maybe they are specified originally wrong for each other? A glance at their spec sheets may begin to clarify things.

Thanks for your kind attentions, b50. I think you're on the right track here. As much as I'd like to put the Dynaco into service, renewing essentials like capacitors and drifted out of spec resistors is unavoidable. I was just surprised the SCA-35 works so well with the little s/s portable tuner but not the Leak Troughline 11.

I'll just have to hold my horses until everything is up to snuff again.
