| Has anybody got experience with this phonostage? How would it compare to a Black Cube / Statement? I like the ergonomics with 2 separate inputs for MM and MC and the simple button that allows switching between the 2. I would be interested how it performs sonically? |

I have a version 1 and version 3. I cannot say how a V8 compares to these or any other but the others share the ergonomics.
You are tied in to a MC cartridge loading of 100 ohms.
It responds well to an improved walwart and the corresponding PSU sold by MF takes adavantage of that.
Reduced component quality in the V3 makes it less accomplished than a V1 in stock form. I don't know if that was sorted in the V8.
They respond very well to mods, most of which are relatively inexpensive.
They are not comparable to other kit when sold at RRP. Second hand they are rather more attractive purchases. |

I recently upgraded to a X-LPSv8 from a v3. The v8 is definately the better phonostage. I wouldn't say that the improvement is in day to night proportions but the v8 does everything what the v3 does well, but better.
I agree with Cable Monkey that the MF improves with it's dedicated PSU and yes, you're limited to 100 ohm with the MC input.
BTW, the X-LPSv8 works well with the X-PSUv3.
Although that I purchased both the LPS and the PSU at a considerable discount price (I payed € 200 for each as they were ex-dem), I still believe that they are good value at RRP. I'd really like to know which phonostages can better the MF at the price?
I can't compare with the Lehman but I had a similarly priced Clearaudio Basic and a Trichord Dino before. Both were good phonostages but I preferred the MF for its neutrality, transparency and overall balance. The Clearaudio was very detailed but a little harsh for my taste, the Trichord a little too woolly. The Trichrord has the edge when it comes to versatility/adaptebility.
Obviously, everything has to be considered in the context of the rest of the system. |
