I just got a new sealed Velvet Underground & Nico in yellow vinyl (with Andy Warhol & banana on the cover). Before I played it I gave it a good bath of enzyme based record cleaner then into the vacuum it went. Expecting dead silence on the "lead in" up to the music what am I greeted with?? POPS & CLICKS!! Shocked WTF?!? Mad Man this stinks, so i run it thru the clean and vacuum again, same deal... Crying or Very sad This is the reason that I buy new vinyl Crying or Very sad . If I wanted pops and clicks I would have bought a ebay special Crying or Very sad . I contacted the seller just to let him know, not asking for a refund or anything because my original is shot so this is all I have and I can't live without my Velvet underground. Damn this stinks Crying or Very sad , just had to vent to my family about it thats all. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad .

It is good practice to wash new records as the manufacturing process leaves residues and dust, especially in lead in / out grooves for some reason, but if it is as bad as you say you seem to have been unlucky as the quality control at the factory where your record was made is obviously poor. You would be allowed a replacement or refund but not postage cost unfortunately.....the risks of buying anything Crying or Very sad

Even with new/sealed items this sadly can occur, although it should'nt. I to have the same lp, but in black vinyl and it sounds fine, no tics/pops, maybe some slight surface noise, its been a while since last played. I have always found colored/picture lps to be of inferior quality, prone to many defects.

Oh well, go figure Sad . I guess it really is a crap crap shoot when it come to new releases. My black copy of L.A's Alright Still is really a very good sounding lp, as close to mint as you can get, where as the lp you noted is of poor quality.

I sent the seller a message to see if they will let me swap it and they sez "if we swap it we won't be able to sell it for NEW, UNOPENED like we did to you, hence an opened copy is only worth a 1/3rd of a new one". Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Everyone should always know what the return policy of the source is, local retail shop or online entity.

Well, an unopened copy that has pops and clicks isn't even worth 1/3 of a new one right? I mean to say - it's not your fault right? They should take it back - I wouldn't buy from them any more if they won't.

Is this an issue that has the gold and black label that says 180 gram vinyl? On the back it may have a sticker 'capitol reissue' or something? These are not very good quality vinyls. I've heard some that sound OK but I've had many returned to my store for obvious defects and audible issues and despite the great price and titles we stopped carrying them for the most part. BTW they are distributed by "Scorpio". You can google this and see other people have bad experiences.

There is an $18 re-issue of Velvet Underground and Nico which should be better quality. I think 4 men with beards did it.

You would probably be just as well off with a 70s or 80s re-issue assuming it's clean.

I know someone with a sealed original first press if you have $3k which isn't a terrible price Smile

3K!!! OUCH! Laughing $18 reissue don't sound bad at all, where might one seek the four bearded men?

Oh and I won't be buying from the dude I bought from. I've bought about 40 records from him this year alone, I guess I must not be on his short list... Rolling Eyes

That sucks! If the guy doesn't have sense enough to see you as a customer who comes in regularly and won't let you at least get something in exchange for the defect.. he could turn around and sell it for $6 so he's basically risking losing a customer for $4.

I just saw you are in San Antonio. I think I have been to most every store there - not so good! I can't even remember any that stick out really. 180 grams looked cool for new indie type stuff but I think he closed. Have better luck at half price books there.

Save some money and come record shopping in Austin, we have 5 or 6 great store now including mine (backspin).

Yeah It came in the mail from Dallas pretty fast and I hooked it up right away. It was bigger than I thought so my first thought was can I hook up this amp in a way that my wife doesn't really know it's been added to the system. Oooh but I will have to tell her that she has to turn it on and turn on the pre-amp - didn't think of that. She didn't care she just rolls her eyes now at new equipment or new records.

It sounds pretty great, not a drastic improvement but more solid and clean. I'm kind of looking for a newer pre-amp to match it.

Yeah stop by when in Austin, we are on Airport not Burnett, for some reason google refuses to take off our old location.

I don't know if I have that 4MWB re-issue of VU right now, we usually try and keep it in stock but are selling more used and less new stuff now. Selling new cds or vinyl is basically a losing proposition at this point.

That is an awesome record btw, I finally got a decent older copy, it's a 3rd press I think but it was pressed only a year or so after the first press.
It's VG though, I also have a 70's reissue on verve that doesn't have a cover but it's close to NM that I use to play.

Picked up Jorma Kaukonen, River Of Time.

Just wanted to post a head's up.......

The first copy I got was damaged? (heavily rubbed) Side B 2/3-3/3 into the 2nd cut with audible scratch / dent.

I returned to the shop and opened another copy.... same damage in the same area however, no dent this time ans the rubbed area is inaudible.

Fred and 2 / 1,000 copies on vinyl issued for record day has this rub making me think that the automated LP process is rubbing the grooves at this point???
