Strathclyde Transcription Developments started life in 1978 with the creation of the STD 305M turntable.
The 305M was heralded as a serious contender to the Linn LP12.
Sound quality was top notch and the aluminium cladding gave it a contemporary look.
However, the deck proved to be too close in price to the all conquering LP12 and despite releasing the cheaper 305S and an upgraded version with electronic speed control, the 305D, STD failed to take the crown and disappeared in the early 1980s.
