Automatic Record Changer
The Garrard Model 5-300 is equipped with the sub-plate mechanism introduced on the Model CC10.
Unlike the Model CC10, the Model 5-300 has a low mass tubular pickup arm which, however, accepts the Garrard range of clip-in cartridges and also, with a suitable adaptor plate, most types of single hole, central fixing cartridge. A special pickup shell is needed to accommodate cartridges with a 2-hole fixing arrangement.
Cueing facility and an adjustable bias compensator are additional Model 5-300 features and the grouping of the controls and their linkage to the sub-plate mechanism differs from Model CC10 (there is no automatic pickup arm safety clip on the Model 5-300).
The Model 5-300 has a larger turntable than the Model CC10 and has a unit plate and spring mounting system which allows units having mechanism of the Garrard Autoslim type to be used on the same new board.
For earlier versions of the Model 5-300 the mounting board cut-out can be modified, however, to allow for the transit screws of these early units which permit assembly and removal of the unit from the board without having to set locking clips from beneath the assembled unit.
The unit plays up to eight records, although the number will depend upon the depth of the pickup cartridge and thickness of individual records.
